Businessman Kirill Seleznev, aged 51, a former member of the Board of Directors of the giant Gazprom Neft and on the international sanctions list, is targeted in an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the fraudulent obtaining of Romanian documents. The case led to searches on Tuesday morning in Suceava and two sectors in Bucharest. In June 2025, the Local Directorate for the Registration of Persons Sector 6 requested the cancellation of birth certificates for Seleznev and two members of his family, writes G4Media.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, almost 120 people are criminally prosecuted for allegedly using false citizenship certificates in the procedures for transcribing birth certificates and obtaining Romanian identity documents.

A G4Media.ro source claims that Seleznev would have made his first Romanian identity card at the end of 2023, at the Population Registration Service Bucecea – an institution where, subsequently, prosecutors descended to dismantle a network that bribed public officials for the illegal issuance of documents.
