In an increasingly volatile world, citizens of the European Union have differing views on the level of expenditure that Brussels should allocate for defense and security, writes Euronews.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of transatlantic relations at a historic low, Europe is trying to regain, consolidate, and take control of its own defense capabilities.<\/p>\n

However, despite recent continental efforts to strengthen security, the majority of Europeans seem to have doubts about their governments’ ability to protect them, according to the latest Eurobarometer data.<\/p>\n

More precisely, over two-thirds of Europeans believe their country is threatened: France (79%), the Netherlands (77%), and Denmark (76%) record the highest percentages of respondents sharing this opinion, while Slovenia (50%), Croatia (52%), and the Czech Republic (52%) have the lowest levels.<\/p>\n

At the same time, EU citizens make a clear distinction between threats to their country and those to their own person, with the majority (51%) disagreeing with the idea that their personal safety is in danger.<\/p>\n
