The Republic of Moldova <a href=\"https:\/\/newsmaker.md\/ro\/indexul-libertatii-presei-2026-moldova-a-urcat-de-pe-locul-35-pe-31-ce-pozitii-ocupa-romania-si-ucraina\">ranked 31st<\/a>, climbing four positions in the ranking, compared to the 2025 list. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The organization categorizes the situation regarding media freedom in the Republic of Moldova as &#8220;satisfactory&#8221;, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/newsmaker.md\/ro\/maia-sandu-dupa-ce-r-moldova-a-urcat-in-clasamentul-mondial-al-libertatii-presei-suntem-pe-drumul-cel-bun\">newsmaker.md<\/a>. President Maia Sandu reacted to the news and conveyed that the indicator is the best among the states applying for membership in the European Union.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<em>Moldova climbs to 31st place (+4) in the 2026 Press Freedom Index of Reporters Without Borders \u2014 the best score among EU candidate countries and the only Eastern European country with a &#8220;satisfactory&#8221; status. There is still much work to be done, but we are on the right track<\/em>&#8220;, Maia Sandu shared on social networks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>The ranking is led by Norway, followed by the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, and Sweden.
