The proposal came in the context of statements by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, who recently affirmed that there is “potential” for the EU to negotiate with Russia and discuss the future of Europe’s security architecture. Vladimir Putin has argued that, in such discussions, Schr\u00f6der would be his preferred mediator, reports News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
