The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, presented on Tuesday, August 25, at the Croatian Ambassadors Conference in Zagreb, the main directions of the new approach.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kos described the moment as a new <em>&#8220;Helsinki moment,&#8221;<\/em> referring to the expansion of the Union after the Cold War, when ten states joined the community block. In his opinion, geopolitical changes also require the transformation of the expansion process.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;The world has changed. And the expansion process must adapt to these changes,&#8221;<\/em> Commissioner Marta Kos stated on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reforming the decision-making process<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the proposed directions aims at internal reforms that would make the European Union more flexible and efficient in times of crisis.
