After six months of war, Iran’s leadership has regrouped around a hard core of generals and clerics who have long been part of the ruling theocracy. They are prepared for a confrontation that could extend with the USA and are determined to prevent the outbreak of internal disturbances.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The situation is entirely different from the initial hopes of American President Donald Trump to overthrow the Islamic Republic<\/a> and his subsequent statements suggesting that “regime change”<\/em> has brought to the forefront officials more willing to compromise.<\/p>\n\n

Iran’s new leaders show little confidence in a potential deal with Trump, having been attacked twice while in negotiations, and may be preparing for another attack as the US replenishes its interceptor stocks, notes AP.<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, they have threatened to escalate the war, given the ongoing American blockade, and Trump’s plans for new sanctions threaten to suffocate Iran’s already severely affected economy.<\/p>\n\n

“If (Trump) wants to do something, we will respond in a seismic way”<\/em>, declared last weekend the new secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mohsen Rezaei. In a post on X, he stated that “if the economic war continues, not even a drop of oil will be exported” from the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n\n
