For the first time in the last 16 years, China has amended its military mobilization law, granting authorities broader powers in the event of a war. The new provisions allow the state to use the resources of citizens and companies for military needs, including vehicles, infrastructure, and energy facilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The changes will come into effect in October and aim to facilitate China’s rapid transition from a state of peace to a state of war.<\/p>\n\n

In the event of a mobilization,<\/a> the authorities will be able to direct economic resources, infrastructure, and labor towards defense objectives. Citizens and companies will be obliged to comply with the orders issued by the state<\/a> during the mobilization process, reports Nikkei.<\/a><\/p>\n\n

One of the most important provisions refers to the possibility of requisitioning private goods. The state will be able to use vehicles, infrastructure, and energy installations when these are considered necessary for defense.<\/p>\n\n

What is happening with foreign companies<\/h2>\n\n

The new rules also target foreign companies operating in China. These can be included in the mobilization mechanism and required to contribute to the production intended for the state’s needs.<\/p>\n\n

A similar provision also existed in the law adopted in 2010. At that time, Chinese authorities had established that, in emergency situations, foreign companies could receive orders to produce goods necessary for the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
