The Republic of Moldova cannot unilaterally decide which agreements within the Commonwealth of Independent States it will remain a part of, says the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. The final decision on the agreements we will maintain within the community will belong to the member states, the official asserts.

The statement was made in the context where the Parliament in Chisinau voted in the first reading to denounce the agreement to establish the CIS, reports IPN. Zaharova mentioned on April 1, during a press conference, that the list of documents signed by Moldova, which remain in force, will be determined by the countries within the organization, following a detailed analysis.

The authorities in Chisinau have initiated the procedure for definitive withdrawal from the CIS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs justified the decision by the violation of the values and fundamental principles of the organization by the Russian Federation.

Russia is accused of violating the provision that stipulates member states must recognize and respect the territorial integrity and inviolability of existing borders, after it provoked wars in the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine.
