Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski stated on Tuesday that he cannot imagine participating in the “Peace Council” proposed by Donald Trump, if Russia were to be part of it. At the same time, he announced that he will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos only to sign an agreement with the United States regarding security guarantees and the economic development of Ukraine.
Ukraine was invited to participate in Trump’s initiative, but Zelenski emphasized: “It is very difficult to imagine how we can be together with Russia in any kind of council.” The statement was made to the press via WhatsApp, according to News.ro.
Although he was scheduled to participate in the WEF in the Grisons ski resort on Tuesday, the Ukrainian president decided to stay in Kiev, due to intense Russian bombings on Monday night.
“Ukraine is ready to meet with all its partners, provided that these meetings contribute to the protection of lives and guarantee security and that they are truly effective,” Zelenski explained in a post on his Telegram channel.
He added: “Our team has prepared everything necessary for us to sign, with the United States, documents regarding security guarantees and the reconstruction of Ukrainei.”
Discussions with European partners in Davos
The Ukrainian delegation present in Davos met on Tuesday morning with French, German, and British national security advisors, announced the head of the delegation, Rustem Umerov.
“We have harmonized our approaches regarding security guarantees and continued our diplomatic work,” Umerov wrote on Telegram. He specified that “other meetings with our partners are planned soon to discuss security guarantees, economic development, and the reconstruction of Ukraine”.
Rustem Umerov recently participated in a round of negotiations with American envoys in Florida. After two days of discussions, the two parties agreed to continue negotiations in Davos.
