Peter Magyar wants to suspend news programs from state radio and television stations, following his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections. The politician accuses the media of not fulfilling its legal obligations.

“One of the first steps after forming a government will be the suspension of news programs of these propaganda media,” Magyar declared on Wednesday morning in an interview given to the state radio station Kossuth Radio.

The presenter mentioned that such a measure would be contrary to the law, according to Agerpres. In response, Magyar said that the press did not fulfill the obligations provided by the media law.

“To accuse me here of breaking the law is like a thief calling the police,” he further said.

The 2010 Hungarian mass-media law obliges public stations to maintain objectivity and balance. According to Magyar, however, these would have supported Orban’s party.
