Russia has adopted a law allowing its central bank and other financial institutions, including its main creditor Sberbank, to operate their own defense systems and arm their personnel. Thus, Moscow is trying to repel drone attacks, according to a document published by the State Duma.
Anti-drone defense systems could be placed near the Central Bank, near Sberbank, the largest Russian commercial bank, and also near the Russian Cash Collection Association. Also, the staff of these institutions could be granted permission to carry weapons.
Financial institutions will bear the cost of defense against drones themselves, according to Russian authorities, reports hotnews.ro, referring to Reuters.
Ukraine allegedly struck the Sevastopol headquarters of the Central Bank of Russia with a British Storm Shadow missile on Wednesday, according to statements from local officials. As a result, the building was engulfed in flames.
The attack on the Sevastopol offices of the Bank of Russia was the first on a major central bank headquarters since the beginning of the war, the cited source notes.
