The Republic of Moldova must continue to strengthen the state built 35 years ago and not lose sight of the progress made during this period. This is the message of President Maia Sandu conveyed on the occasion of Independence Day.
The head of state evoked the events of August 1991 and the courage of those who participated in the National Renaissance Movement, assuming risks for Moldova to become a free and independent state.
“They have created an independent state. It is our duty to nurture it,” declared Maia Sandu.
The President reported that the Republic of Moldova is free today and lives in peace, mentioning the contribution of Ukraine’s resistance to maintaining peace, as well as the support of external partners. She noted the changes in economic relations and the energy sector: Moldovan products are increasingly appreciated on the European market, and the country can decide its future without energy blackmail.
Maia Sandu emphasized, at the same time, the protection of democracy as one of the achievements of the 35 years of independence, underlining that it is not guaranteed by itself, notes IPN. According to the president, the direction of the Republic of Moldova is towards the European Union, where the country’s identity is respected.
The head of state has urged citizens to remain united, not to lose hope, and to contribute to building a better future for the next generations, while also protecting nature, traditions, and families.
On the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day, the presidents of Romania and Ukraine are coming to Chisinau. Nicusor Dan has already arrived in the capital and is set to attend the military parade dedicated to the holiday alongside the president.
Vladimir Zelenski is expected in the second part of the day, and in the evening a trilateral meeting will take place, after which the three heads of state will make joint press statements.
