The Polish government intends to call up over 300,000 reservists and recruits next year, both professionals and volunteers, according to a project of the Ministry of Defense, the details of which were made public on Thursday.
The project envisages 20,000 new positions in the professional military service, 6,500 more than last year, in addition to 200,000 reservists and 83,700 members of auxiliary corps, report EFE and Agerpres news agencies.
The measure taken by the Ministry of Defense in Warsaw provides for the summoning of over 200,000 citizens to assess their capabilities and assign them to a military unit in the event of a mobilization.
This is the largest mobilization campaign in recent years, targeting men and women up to 60 years old, who will have to report to the designated recruitment center to have their physical abilities and knowledge evaluated, after which they will become reservists and will be temporarily assigned to a military corps.
The unjustified absence or refusal to comply with the summons order may result in penalties ranging from fines to being brought to the recruitment center by the police, in accordance with the Law on the Defense of the Homeland.
Furthermore, if deemed necessary, some of these reservists will need to undergo training for up to 90 consecutive days.
