The interim Governor of Gagauzia, Ilia Uzun, convened representatives of several public organizations from the autonomy. Following the meeting, Ivan Burgudji, Mihail Vlah, Fiodor Dobrov, Ivan Fuior, Mihail Țurcan, Valentina Ianioglo, and Boris Novac requested the postponement of the regional elections for the deputies of the Popular Assembly of Gagauzia and for the position of governor from November 2026 to the spring of 2027.
The initiative was launched in a context where political parties and activists from the autonomy, as well as mayors of Gagauz villages and towns, declared their willingness to participate in the electoral process according to the rules agreed with Chisinau. Many local leaders explain this position by the fatigue accumulated following the prolonged institutional crisis and uncertainty.
Some call the created group the “Gagauz GKChP” and link its position to the loss of influence of Ilan Shor’s supporters. According to them, postponing the elections would allow Shor to maintain his control levers over the region.
The elections for the position of governor and for the deputies of the Gagauz People’s Assembly are scheduled for November 15, 2026. The submission of documents for participation in the vote has already begun.
