The pro-war Russian media claims that Lieutenant General Sergei Milhakov, commander of the 51st Army of the Southern Military District, died in a missile attack on the army headquarters, reports NEXTA. Milhakov participated in the planning and organization of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, from February 24, 2022.
The available information suggests that Milhakov was killed in a missile attack carried out on August 26 against the main and reserve command posts of the Russian forces in Donetsk, according to 24tv.ua.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that, on August 26 and on the night of August 27, Russian command posts, both main and reserve, in Donetsk were hit by missiles.
In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally awarded him the title of Hero of Russia. At the beginning of 2025, Ukrainian media and OSINT sources, citing leaked data, claimed that under Milhakov’s command, the 51st Army was running a clandestine drug trafficking network to the troops. Those who tried to stop the corruption and trafficking, reports mentioned, were sent on “sacrificial attacks” from which no one returned.
