Poland has gone on alert and has scrambled its fighter jets on Monday afternoon, after Russia furiously attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev, destroying several important buildings in the city center, and causing the death of a woman, reports The Guardian. In recent weeks, such measures have become increasingly frequent and rather routine, as Russia has intensified its air attacks on Ukraine.

The residents of Lublin, in eastern Poland, have reported hearing the warning sirens of civil defense, and the Governmental Center for Security of Poland has sent alerts via SMS to the local population. The airports in Lublin and Rzeszow have suspended their operations.

Unusually, however, in the last minutes the center raised the warning level to “danger of air attack”.

A Russian jet drone crashed near the border between Poland and Ukraine.

In a statement for the Polish TV station TVN24, Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, from the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, said that a Russian reaction drone crashed near the Dorohusk-Yahodyn Polish-Ukrainian border crossing point.

“It is once again a danger that comes very close to our border,” he said. From the information presented by The Guardian journalists so far, the drone crashed on the Ukrainian side of the border, and Polish airspace has not been violated.

At this moment, there are no other statements confirming the incident. The situation seems to be under control: the air raid alert has been lifted, and the airports in Lublin and Rzeszow have resumed operations.
