Russian businessman Ilia Traber, a prominent figure in the Russian business environment, has been detained in connection with an investigation into an alleged contract killing, Russian media reported on Wednesday, as relayed by Reuters.

The authorities have not confirmed the information, and a company of Traber did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Reuters.

However, images that seem to show that Trauber was arrested by the police have appeared in the Russian press.

Traber, aged 75, has for decades been one of the significant figures in the business environment of Saint Petersburg, where he holds substantial investments in ports and logistics.

Arrested are Vladimir Putin’s longtime associates, crime bosses Ilya Traber and Gennady Petrov. Both men have been linked to organized crime and have been the subjects of major criminal investigations in Europe.

Fontanka, the most read online newspaper in Saint Petersburg, reported that searches are taking place at Traber’s properties and that one of his associates has also been detained.

According to Fontanka, the investigation is related to the fatal shooting in 2020 of businessman and politician Aleksandr Petrov.
