Uralvagonzavod has announced that it has renamed the combat vehicle for tank support Terminator. From now on, the machine will be called “Spiridon”.
“This is a rare name, but revered in Russia. It was borne by truly determined people,” the company stated, citing as examples Saint Spiridon and the hero of the Soviet Union, Spiridon Spitsyn.
Meduza writes that the symbolism is also linked to the name of the Russian president’s grandfather, Vladimir Putin. According to the Rossiya-1 television channel, about 2000 names were analyzed before the renaming.
Among the options were also “Dobrynya”, “Bogatyr”, “Dmitry Donskoy” and “Uralets”. The mentioned combat vehicle has been in service with the Russian army since 2018.
