A political party paid sums between 500 and 1000 lei to people to shout in front of the Palace of the Republic that there is poverty and dictatorship in Moldova. The police published images with the testimonies of some protesters.

The group of protesters gathered on Thursday, March 19, near the Palace of the Republic in Chisinau, where the High-Level Conference on Social Rights – the European Social Charter is taking place. The event brings together about 50 delegations from the member states of the Council of Europe.

They shouted “Down with genocide”, “Down with dictatorship” and asked to speak directly with the European delegations present at the event, declaring in English that “in Moldova people are poor, they have no salaries and pensions”.

The video features men claiming they were recruited, including on Telegram. They were instructed what to say if they were asked about the protest, but also how to collect their “payment”.

The police also identified at least one minor who participated in the protest. His legal representative was sanctioned.

“The organizer of the transportation of the participants, as well as 2 people were sanctioned. Also, during the actions, a minor present at the protest was identified, and his legal representative was sanctioned according to the legal provisions.”

The police reiterate that the organization and conduct of public meetings must take place in compliance with the legal framework, and the involvement of persons, including minors, in such activities for a reward entails responsibility, according to the current legislation,” the Moldovan Police transmitted.
