Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over international waters in the Baltic Sea on Tuesday, announced Polish Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference.
“This is the first Russian attempt in a long time to approach our maritime border to observe our air defense systems,” stated the Polish Minister of Defense, according to the France Presse agency.
According to him, this is further evidence that Russia has been waging, since the large-scale invasion launched in Ukraine in 2022, a “hybrid war” against Poland, a NATO and EU member country, and that it “carries out reconnaissance missions and shows hostility towards all North Atlantic Alliance countries”.
The incident took place approximately 30 kilometers from Ustka, a seaside resort in northwestern Poland, located on the Baltic Sea coast, the minister specified.
