The fire triggered by a presumed attack at Milrem Robotics, an Estonian company that manufactures robotic ground systems sold to Ukraine, was an act of hybrid warfare by Russia, declared Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs on Thursday, according to EFE, reported by Agerpres.
Kulbergs made this statement in a joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart, Mindaugas Sinkevicius, shortly after the Latvian State Security Service (VDD) announced that it is investigating three Latvian citizens suspected of attempting to set fire to a factory in Estonia on the night of August 15.
“VDD detained two Latvian suspects on August 17 and another one on August 18. All suspects are in pre-trial detention,” the Security Service indicated in a statement.
According to Kulbergs, the security agencies of the three Baltic countries – Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania – are closely collaborating to prevent acts of sabotage and other acts of “hybrid warfare” orchestrated by Russia, which “does not like that we are helping Ukraine”.
Regarding the attack against Milrem Robotics, the Latvian Prime Minister suggested that it probably occurred because the company did not comply with the security services’ instructions or was not vigilant enough.
