Warning shots were fired from the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich towards a civilian yacht. The incident took place in the English Channel.
The yacht would have approached the Russian ship at about 500 meters, reports Meduza. Everything happened on Tuesday afternoon, between the Isle of Wight in the UK and the coast of Normandy.
The owner of the yacht and the reason for its approach to the Russian ship are not yet clear. No one was injured.
The UK Ministry of Defence has stated that it is “investigating” the information. Russia has not yet commented on the incident.
On June 14th, the United Kingdom intercepted the oil tanker Smirtos, suspected of belonging to a shadowy Russian fleet. The ship’s captain was officially charged with evading sanctions. This is the first time the United Kingdom has intercepted an oil tanker linked to Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
