The story of an American who claims to have trained crows to snatch the famous red “Make America Great Again” caps worn by Trump’s supporters has ignited social media and sparked an intense debate about the intelligence of birds/animals and the limits of ethics.
Known online as @biz_dave, the man posted a detailed journal of the process on Threads, describing step by step how he managed to turn wild birds into small “retrievers” of objects, according to IBTimes UK.
His strategy would have started with simple aspects: constant food, in the same place, to gain the trust of the local crows.
As the birds began to return daily, the man introduced small challenges, such as covered containers, objects that had to be manipulated to reach the reward, transparent barriers gradually replaced with opaque ones.
In his posts, the man explains that these exercises were essential to teach the crows to interact with artificial objects.
The man recounts that the decisive moment was when he switched from boxes to a red, opaque object, equipped with a metal ring. Subsequently, he attached the same type of ring to a red cap.
