Bulgaria does not intend to provide additional weapons to Ukraine, announced on Tuesday Dimităr Stoianov, the new Minister of Defense in the government of Prime Minister Rumen Radev. In the official’s opinion, the war has reached a stage where a military solution is unlikely, and efforts should rather focus on diplomacy.

According to the minister, the war has largely become a positional one, with continuous deliveries of military equipment failing to produce a decisive result on the battlefield, reports news.ro.

“The war in Ukraine will not be resolved on the battlefield. We are witnessing a war of position and, regardless of the amount of accumulated weaponry, the only result is the loss of human lives. It is time for us to sit down at the negotiation table. It is time to seek a fair peace, and that peace must be established by the two parties involved in the conflict. Ukraine needs more people, not more weapons. It has enough weapons, so we do not intend to supply more weapons to the Ukrainian army,” Stoianov conveyed.

The Minister of Defense has called for negotiations. The official reiterated the importance of the European Union in any future peace process, although he suggested that the bloc might encounter difficulties in acting as a neutral mediator due to the support given to Ukraine from the beginning of the war.
