The Chief of Staff of the French army, General Fabien Mandon, stated that the possibility of an “open war” with Russia remains the “main concern”. The French general had already warned that this scenario could be possible “in three, four years”, according to AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
“The persistence of a Russian threat on our continent, with an open war (…) remains my main concern in terms of preparing the army,” General Mandon stated in front of the deputies of the Defense Commission, during a hearing dedicated to updating the military program regarding the strengthening of the defense budget until 2030.
“Every country retains the freedom to evolve, but, in any case, the projections we have today (…) are that Russia, by 2025, will have 1.3 million soldiers, with a projection of 1.9 (million) in 2030,” he emphasized.
It is forecasted that the number of Russian heavy tanks is expected to increase from 4,000 in 2025 to 7,000 in 2030, while the number of Russian navy warships “should remain at a level between 230 and 240”, according to this.
