Andy Burnham is taking the first steps towards a more serious reorientation of the United Kingdom towards the European Union, more than ten years after the Brexit vote. The British Prime Minister stated that he will present his “options” for closer relations of the Kingdom with the Union and also said that Brexit has done “more harm than good” to his country, reports the German agency DPA, quoted by Agerpres.
Suggesting that he might abandon the “red lines” from the 2024 Labour electoral program that ruled out rejoining the customs union or the single market, the British Prime Minister stated that the UK must decide on its “long-term relationship” with the European bloc.
Burnham also said that the United Kingdom has “lost some control” over the economy and immigration following its exit from the EU.
“We will not give Great Britain the clear path we need for the rest of the century until we decide on a long-term relationship with what remains our main market,” he declared in his speech delivered on Tuesday, in front of party members, in Liverpool.
“I cannot say that the current situation is satisfactory. Brexit has done more harm than good“, added Burnham.
