Artificial intelligence models capable of toppling governments and large companies are just “a few months” away from being launched on the market, warn Western intelligence services.
In an extremely rare joint statement, the intelligence agencies of the “Five Eyes” alliance (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) are urging world leaders to take urgent action. The alarm comes shortly after the Donald Trump administration decided earlier this month to ban foreign citizens’ access to the AI model “Fable”, developed by the Anthropic company.
According to the document published Monday evening, artificial intelligence “accelerates the speed, scale, and sophistication of cyber threats”. Intelligence officials emphasize that new technologies will far exceed the current expectations of the industry, radically transforming both offensive and defensive capabilities, writes metro.co.uk.
“The time horizon is no longer measured in years, but in months. In this new context, cyber resilience becomes essential for business continuity, market confidence, and long-term stability“, the statement said.
Security experts warn that the huge technological leap will significantly lower the barriers for malicious cyber actors, increasing the complexity of attacks. For this reason, the issue can no longer be viewed as purely technical, but as a major national security risk and a direct responsibility of political and economic leaders.
