After nearly three weeks of war in Iran, US President Donald Trump continues to “get along very well” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but American officials are beginning to realize that the ultimate goals of the US and Israel may increasingly differ as this conflict continues, Axios reports.

Sources quoted by Axios described Trump as the most “enthusiastic” person in the White House about starting a war with Iran. At the same time, Trump declares himself much more aligned with the maximalist objectives that Netanyahu has regarding Iran, than his advisers at the White House.

Three of Trump’s advisers stated, under anonymity, that the US president wants to end the military operation in Iran before Netanyahu.

The crisis triggered by the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, however, prevents Trump from withdrawing too soon from this war.

At present, the US and Israel are collaborating very well: the military and intelligence services of the two are coordinating their attacks, even if the targets and objectives pursued are different: thus, while the Americans focus almost exclusively on military objectives, Israel targets also the officials and political and military leaders in Tehran, in veritable high-level assassination missions, with the aim of preparing the ground for regime change.
