Germany published on Wednesday a package of strategic documents considered fundamental for defense and the German armed forces, in what is considered the most comprehensive reorganization and integrated planning of defense within the Bundeswehr, made in the last decades. The package includes the first integrated military strategy, a new profile of military capabilities, a plan to increase the number of military personnel, and a review of the strategy concerning the military reserve, reports Defense News publication.

The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, announced the package of laws at an annual military-themed conference organized last November. Military officials presented the documents, in their final form, to German parliamentarians this week.

Unredacted sections from this legislative package were put up for public debate during a press conference organized on Wednesday, April 22.

The documents from the legislative package will form the basis of Germany’s defense strategy for the next 20 years.

Entitled “Verantwortung für Europa” – “Responsibility for Europe” – Berlin’s military strategy identifies Russia as its main threat and outlines scenarios of possible attacks on NATO countries’ territory.
