The entire electrical grid of Iraq abruptly shut down, plunging the country into darkness, at a time of heightened regional tensions, due to a power outage, the causes of which are still being investigated.
Iraq is facing a major energy crisis, after, on Wednesday, March 4, the entire national electrical grid completely shut down, leaving the country in the dark. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Electric Power in Baghdad, which confirmed that the power outage affects all Iraqi provinces.
“The electrical grid has completely shut down in all Iraqi provinces,” the institution conveyed, according to the official news agency INA, quoted by lbcgroup.tv.
The authorities have specified that the reasons leading to the collapse of the system are under investigation, without providing, for now, additional details regarding a possible technical cause or a security incident.
The blackout occurs in a tense regional context, where the critical infrastructure of Middle Eastern countries has become vulnerable due to conflicts and instability.
