The US President, Donald Trump, has revised his assessment of the war in Ukraine. According to sources cited by Bloomberg, the opinion has now formed both within his close circle and among the G7 leaders that Russia will not manage to achieve a victory on the battlefield.

This represents a significant shift from Trump’s stance after his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, in August 2025, when he believed that Ukraine “does not have strong cards to play” and should accept territorial concessions.

Now, according to one of the G7 representatives, who spoke under the protection of anonymity, the United States and its European allies are increasingly convinced that Kiev’s positions are strengthening.

The change in attitude became evident at the G7 summit held in Évian-les-Bains, where French President Emmanuel Macron organized a brief meeting between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Bloomberg source, during the discussion, Zelenski showed Trump photos of the Dormition Cathedral of the Mother of God in Kiev, damaged as a result of a Russian attack. The images reportedly impressed the American leader.

Russia should make a deal. Everything is simply ridiculous. Yes, I will do everything in my power,” Trump declared during a meeting with the Emir of Qatar.

Unlike the positions previously expressed, Trump no longer asked Ukraine to make concessions or to surrender.

Bloomberg also notes that, in a discussion with the leader of the United Arab Emirates, Trump stated that he is open to the idea of tightening sanctions against Moscow, especially after the end of the conflict with Iran.

“We can do this, because the oil is flowing again,” said the American president.
