Kazakhstan will stop pumping oil through the pipeline to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal at Novorossiisk and will no longer deliver through the Black Sea, following attacks on some oil tankers, reports Bloomberg, citing two sources familiar with the situation. The cessation of Kazakh oil transport to the Black Sea will also affect Romania. Our country imports a large amount of Kazakh crude oil, which is essential for the Petromidia and Petrobrazi refineries.

According to one of the publication’s sources, companies are afraid to send oil tankers to the CPC terminal anymore. If the pipeline transportation suspension continues until the end of this week, Kazakhstan will be forced to reduce its oil production, the sources stated.

Approximately 80% of the country’s oil exports pass through the CPC system, which connects the deposits in Kazakhstan with the maritime terminal near the city of Novorossiisk. In 2024, this system transported 63 million tons of oil, of which 55 million tons came from Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan ranks 12th in the global ranking of oil producers and extracts approximately 1.8-1.9 million barrels per day.

The Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country condemns the attacks on civilian oil tankers in the area of the CPC maritime terminal. The statement came after the attacks on ships on July 17, 19, and 20.
