The journalists of “Euromaidan Press” have deleted an article about the fact that all supply lines to the separatist Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova have been blocked since January 1 by Chisinau and Kiev, underlining that what happened in reality was “significantly exaggerated”.

On January 12, the journalists of the mentioned source published an article in which they wrote that, starting from January 1, Kiev began to apply strict controls along the approximately 450 kilometers border with the separatist Transnistria region, imposing inspections for any permitted movement of goods or people.

At the same time, the Moldovan authorities have strengthened the checkpoints and extended the security measures at the border, using mobile units to support checks beyond the fixed crossings. Together, these measures transform the separatist region from a gray area, which Russia could discreetly manage, into a strictly controlled space, where any external support becomes extremely visible.

On the same day, the journalists of “Euromaidan Press” deleted the article, the decision being taken, they say, after they established that what happened was significantly exaggerated, mentioning that, in reality, there was no blockade, and ,,the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine ended on January 1, with the expiration of the transit contract, a development publicly anticipated for months. Ukraine’s border with Transnistria has been closed since February 2022. The customs duties imposed by the Republic of Moldova on Transnistrian goods have been in force since 2024. No new “coordinated blockade” has been announced or implemented by either of the two governments”.

And the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, a structure within the Government of Chisinau, denied the information reported by the press from Kiev, mentioning that the measure regarding the passage of goods, people and means of transport from the separatist Transnistrian region through the checkpoints of the Republic of Moldova’s border is applied once the war of Russia against Ukraine is triggered.

,,”As it is known over the last almost 4 years, since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine by the Russian Federation, all goods, people and means of transport entering and leaving the Transnistrian region and crossing the country’s borders, only pass through the checkpoints of the state border where the Customs Service and the General Inspectorate of the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova are present. This situation has prompted the business environment in the region to comply with national legal requirements and the documentation of citizens with national model identity documents, and consequently the advancement in the social-economic reintegration policies of the eastern districts of the country. Through bilateral and specialty channels, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine maintain good cooperation and permanent information exchanges, including regarding the situation in the Transnistrian region of the country, where no imminent security destabilization risks are identified”, added the employees of the institution within the Moldovan Executive.
