The Bosnian authorities have blocked the landing of the military plane transporting Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, to the Republic of Srpska, the Serbian entity in Bosnia.
The reason invoked by the Bosnian Defense Minister Zukan Helez was the support given by Budapest to the former Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, actions which, according to him, undermined the country’s sovereignty. Helez explained on Facebook that Hungary “did not provide any clear explanation about the arrival of Peter Szijjarto, who was on board a military plane.”
He added that Szijjarto, along with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, supported Milorad Dodik “in actions that have undermined the sovereignty, territorial integrity and cohesion of Bosnia”. Dodik was dismissed in August, after he was convicted for ignoring the decisions of the international emissary in charge of overseeing the Peace Agreement for Bosnia, an agreement that ensures the country’s stability since the end of the interethnic war from 1992-1995.
