On the evening of August 4, between the hours of 21:00 and 23:00, the power system of the Republic of Moldova will face an electricity deficit.

According to the Government, the heatwave has led to a significant increase in energy consumption across the region. Production is affected by weather conditions and the lowering of the Danube’s level.

“The authorities and system operators have taken all steps to procure the necessary energy and will also use emergency energy mechanisms to maintain system stability. Tonight, each of us can contribute by voluntarily reducing energy consumption, between 21:00 and 23:00,” announced the Government.

Citizens are advised to turn off the lights, disconnect the electrical appliances they are not using, postpone the use of washing machines, dryers, ovens, avoid using air conditioning and elevators.

The population is advised to prepare for possible temporary power outages, to keep mobile phones charged, and to have alternative sources of lighting.

The authorities assure that hospitals, emergency services, and critical infrastructure will operate normally.
