Călin Georgescu was apprehended Monday morning in traffic, in a lightning operation by DIICOT. Simultaneously, investigators raided his properties, as well as the residences of the other suspects in the fraud case involving 1.1 million euros for which he was reported in 2024 by businessman Răzvan Leu from Buzău.
DIICOT confirmed in September 2025 that it is conducting in rem investigations into allegations of forming an organized criminal group and fraud, in the case where Georgescu, Negoescu and Rusen are reported. DIICOT specified that European investigation orders have been issued to the United Kingdom, Italy, and Switzerland.
The dubious relationships of the controversial Ion Negoescu, begin from the time when he was active as a police officer, being signaled in the entourage of the Russian political scientist Aleksandr Dugin, the ideologist of Vladimir Putin, with whom he met during the latter’s visit to Romania during the period of June 23-25, 2014.
Moreover, it is known that Negoescu is the one who provided Dughin with a police motorcycle escort from the local police of Bucharest for his travel, using his position as a police officer and the relationships he had at the level of the Bucharest Prefecture.
Negoescu also accompanied Dughin to the town of Curtea de Arges, and then, as Robert Turcescu revealed at the time in an article, Dughin dined at the Diesel restaurant in the Capital, at the invitation of Călin Georgescu, a fact that shows the close relationship between Negoescu and Călin Georgescu since 2014.
