The separatist leader Vadim Krasnoselski asserts that he trusts the authorities in Chisinau and President Maia Sandu, when they declare that they do not want a military solution to the Transnistrian dispute. The statements were made on May 5, against the backdrop of increasingly frequent assertions by Russian officials about an alleged threat coming from Chisinau.

“Nevertheless, I believe in lucidity and common sense. No matter how complicated our relations may be, I still believe in Moldovan politicians. I believe they tell the truth and that they are against the military resolution of the Transnistrian issue. Of course, there are many nuances – both the arming of Moldova and the special units participating in NATO programs. But that’s something else. I believe the president when she says she doesn’t want to solve the Transnistrian problem by military means. And I thank them for that, without a doubt,” Krasnoselski declared.

At the same time, the separatist official admitted that the situation could change, according to newsmaker.md. “Today, this is the politicians’ stance, but there are also other voices provoking the political leadership, pushing it towards certain scenarios,” he said.

On April 21, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, accused the authorities in Chisinau of attempting, together with the European Union, to remove the Russian Troop Operative Group (GOTR) from the region. The Russian official then stated that Moscow “will use all available methods” to protect its citizens in the Transnistrian region.

Subsequently, the agreed ambassador of Russia to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, reiterated the message.

The Reintegration Policy Office then rejected the statements, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs classified Șoigu’s assertions as “provocative, unacceptable, and regrettable”.
