The volume of cash money supply in Russia increased in December 2025 by 836.3 billion rubles (approximately 8.36 billion euros), which represents a record for the last 11 years, reports RBC, citing statistics from the Central Bank.

Throughout the entire year, the volume of “cash” in circulation increased by 1 trillion rubles (approximately 10 billion euros) — five times more than in 2024. Over 80% of this amount was withdrawn in cash towards the end of the year.

Usually, in December there is a seasonal increase in cash circulation, driven by additional wages (the 13th salary), bonuses, and expenses related to the winter holidays. However, this time, the withdrawal of funds from the banking system exceeded all previous highs recorded in recent years. More cash than now, the Russians withdrew only in December 2014, against the backdrop of the ruble’s collapse and the economic crisis – 918.4 billion rubles (approx. 9.18 billion euros).

For comparison: in December 2024, cash withdrawals were 665.2 billion rubles (6.65 billion euros), and in December 2023 — 408.8 billion (4.08 billion euros).
