According to the American publication Time, the number of people killed by Iranian authorities could exceed 30,000, just on January 8 and 9, when the country was the scene of some of the largest demonstrations in the current wave of protests.

The Human Rights Activists in Iran Organization (HRANA), based in the USA, has so far confirmed 5,495 deaths, of which 5,149 are protesters, and stated that it is verifying another 17,031 situations. In addition, 7,403 people were seriously injured, and 40,887 were arrested.
The organization’s representatives emphasize the difficulty of accurately confirming the number of deaths, considering the frequent internet shutdowns imposed by the authorities in the last three weeks.
