    Internal documents of the Russian conglomerate Rostec suggest that China has collaborated with Russia in the development and supply of electronic warfare (EW) systems, intended to protect Russian strategic infrastructure from Ukrainian drone attacks, writes militarnyi.com.

    The information was published by the hacker group Black Mirror, which claims to have gained access to the company’s correspondence and technical reports.

    Technological collaboration in defense

    According to the documents, Chinese electronic warfare equipment began to be used by the Russian army at least from August 2023, especially for the protection of air bases.

    The file mentions that the Russian Ministry of Defense coordinated the testing and field application of Chinese systems, including for the detection and neutralization of drones using 4G networks or connections through the Starlink satellite – a system developed by the American company SpaceX.

    The documents also show that Russia aimed to develop an industrial partnership with several Chinese companies, among which a research institute specialized in electronic warfare, a manufacturer capable of mass production, a logistics firm with active supply chains, and an insurance company.

    Electronic warfare systems presented at the military forum

    At the Army-2023 forum, Russia presented a complete electronic warfare complex, presumably of Chinese origin. The system included:

    -a drone detection scanner on frequencies between 300 and 6000 MHz;

    -a radar capable of identifying slow drones or those flying at low altitude, up to a speed of 1 m/s and a minimum altitude of 10 meters;

    -a jamming device on five frequency bands, with a power of 50 watts on each band;

    -an optical system with automatic target tracking, with a range of 3 km during the day and 1 km at night, in infrared;

    -a device for falsifying GPS coordinates (spoofing).

    Russian specialists noted that the system is mobile, hard to detect, and can be set up in about 30 minutes.

    Portable anti-drone weapons were also tested, including:

    -a “gun” with eight channels and a range of up to 1.2 km;

    -a handheld scanner with a detection range of over 2 km;

    -a portable jamming device, mounted in a backpack;

    -an anti-drone shield, capable of blocking signals over 2.5 km.
