A DHL cargo aircraft is said to have collided in mid-air with a drone, shortly after taking off from Leipzig airport. The crew decided to make an emergency landing in Hanover.
The German police previously announced that they are investigating a suspicious object found near a runway of the Leipzig airport, Wednesday, following a security incident that occurred overnight, reports. The incident temporarily disrupted airport operations.
Several cargo planes and a passenger flight from Mallorca were diverted to nearby airports, writes realitatea.md. It is believed that the object found near the runway was the one the plane collided with in flight. This object is thought to have contained explosives.
The aircraft sustained minor damage to the front. Officially, the German authorities have not confirmed that the object the plane collided with was a drone, but they have classified the incident as a security one.
