DIICOT announced on Tuesday that they have detained a 40-year-old Russian citizen. The man is accused of attempted diversion.
The actions were allegedly committed during the period of February – July 2026, writes Agerpres. During this time, the individual was monitored by the Romanian special services.
“From the evidence administered in the case, it emerged that, during the period of February-July 2026, with the prospect of committing acts of diversion/sabotage, of a hybrid type, under the direct coordination of a person with whom he maintained contact through encrypted online messaging services, he identified, monitored and collected military information.”
Furthermore, he took and transmitted photographs regarding the technique of the Romanian/allied armed forces and the movement of personnel and combat equipment, to several objectives (bases) of Romanian and multinational military, located within the counties of Cluj, Constanța, Călărași, Ilfov and the municipality of Bucharest, acts which, by their nature, endangered national security,” the DIICOT officers informed.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal is set to decide whether it will place the detained person in preventive custody for 30 days, as requested by the prosecutors.
