The proposal from Chisinau to repair roads in exchange for the removal of illegal posts in the Transnistrian region has been criticized, reports Security Zone. The so-called local deputy Andrei Safonov stated that such an initiative could be interpreted as an attempt to “destroy the entire mechanism of maintaining peace and security on the banks of the Dniester”.

“Perhaps Chisinau intends to allow the entry of illegal loads or groups of people? But what does this have to do with the declared main goal – repairing the roads? This is not how roads are repaired,” Safonov said.

Safonov claims that the posts were installed legally.

“To be honest, I am somewhat surprised by such naivety on the part of Chisinau. What do, let’s note, absolutely legal posts, which originate from the 1992 agreements, have to do with road repair?”, the politician further stated.

However, in 1992, Russia and Moldova agreed, in the Ceasefire Agreement, only on the installation of peacekeeping posts within the perimeter of the security zone. The checkpoints, i.e., those forming the alleged Transnistrian border, were installed by the Tiraspol regime illegally and unilaterally.

Chisinau’s proposal refers to the illegal barriers that limit free movement, the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces posts do not affect free movement.

We remind you that the administration in Chisinau proposed on March 17 to Tiraspol to repair the roads in the Transnistrian region, provided that the illegal barriers limiting free movement across the Dniester are removed. The initiative was announced during the working group meeting on transport between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
