Diana Șoșoacă has recently been in the spotlight of the media, after attending the economic forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Romanian press refers to the event as “Putin’s Davos”.

At the beginning of the event, Șoșoacă participated in a panel discussion about press freedom, alongside Marina Tauber. However, from the images published by the former deputy from the Republic of Moldova, it seems that the Member of the European Parliament took a nap during the speech.

At the discussion panel in which Tauber and Șoșoacă participated, several former deputies associated with Ilan Șor also attended. Among them are Reghina Apostolova and Vasile Bolea.

The Romanian press wrote that Diana Șoșoacă used the forum’s platform to criticize Romania’s foreign policy and its relationship with the Russian Federation, presenting her participation as an attempt to keep the dialogue with Moscow open. According to RFI, the MEP insisted on the idea that Romania should be present in all major international forums, including those organized by the Kremlin.

Șoșoacă gave an interview to one of the Kremlin’s main propaganda channels, Russia Today. The MEP questioned the legitimacy of President Nicușor Dan, criticized the government in Bucharest, and reiterated Russian manipulative narratives, invoking the fact that Romania would be pushed by the West to attack Russia and go to war, according to ProTV. The politician also criticized the support given to Ukraine, after the invasion of Russian troops.

The following day, a photo session with Ilan Șor took place. The fugitive politician published the images and wrote that he appears alongside the “future president of free Romania”.

Subsequently, Diana Șoșoacă harshly criticized several pro-Russian politicians from the Republic of Moldova on social networks and said that, in fact, Ilan Șor would have greeted her in Romanian and would have told her about the A7 company, sanctioned in some states for allegedly legalizing the income of Russians fleeing Western restrictions. The MEP, however, believes that the enterprise has potential, is successful, and should collaborate with the authorities in Bucharest.

A selfie was posted by Diana Șoșoacă alongside Maria Zaharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The MEP wrote that the photo was taken before Vladimir Putin’s arrival at the event.
