Ukraine has intensified drone attacks deep into Russian territory, with the aim of disrupting the oil industry that fuels the Kremlin’s war machine, write Reuters and The Moscow Times.

Ukrainian drones struck a oil refinery near the Russian city of Perm on Thursday, the second consecutive attack on oil facilities in the area, as part of an intense campaign aimed at reducing the revenues Russia obtains from energy.

The refinery owned by Lukoil, located more than 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine, is one of the largest in Russia and has a capacity of nearly 13 million metric tons per year, stated the Ukrainian security service SBU, quoted by Reuters.

According to preliminary information, the attack hit a key facility for the primary processing of oil at the refinery, effectively taking the unit out of operation, according to the SBU.

SBU added that it has once again struck an oil pumping station in the area, which ensures the oil supply to the refinery. The station was also attacked on Wednesday night into Thursday, and Thursday’s attack caused new fire outbreaks, the source specified.
