The opening of the first group of negotiation chapters with Moldova and Ukraine is on the agenda of the European Council. EU leaders will discuss the subject on June 18-19.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, states that the Brussels summit could mark a significant moment for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, reports IPN. In the invitation letter addressed to the heads of state and government of the EU, the official mentions that European leaders are expected to welcome the opening of the first group of negotiation chapters with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
“Our meeting will provide the opportunity to send a strong signal of unity and, also, I expect us to welcome the opening of the first group of negotiation chapters with Ukraine and Moldova, a significant step on their European path,” conveyed the President of the European Council.
In addition to the opening of Moldova’s EU accession negotiations, the European Council’s agenda includes the subject of Ukraine, the Western Balkans, refers to the competitiveness of the European economy, the future multiannual EU budget for the period 2028-2034, strengthening European defense, migration and developments in the Middle East.
