Belarus enters a new stage of military cooperation with Russia, after the Ministry of Defense in Minsk announced the start of exercises regarding the use of tactical nuclear weapons. The training, conducted on Belarusian territory in collaboration with the Russian army, aims to test the troops’ response capacity and preparation for handling special ammunition, in an increasingly tense regional context.
According to the official statement released by the state agency BELTA, the exercises aim to “improve the level of preparedness of military personnel” and to verify the technical condition of weapons and special equipment necessary for carrying out combat missions in unplanned areas.
Belarusian authorities maintain that the maneuvers are not directed against any state and do not pose a threat to regional security.
Nevertheless, the scale of the exercise and the nuclear component have raised concerns among Western states, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine and the escalating tensions between Russia and NATO, according to Blic.
The exercise includes simulations regarding the transportation of tactical nuclear weapons, preparing them for use, and the rapid deployment of forces in unprepared areas.
The military will also practice long-distance movements, camouflage measures, and coordination of the units involved in possible special operations.
Military analysts believe that such exercises send a strategic message to the West and confirm the increasingly close approach between Minsk and Moscow.
