Tatiana Navka, the wife of the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, has challenged the sanctions imposed by the European Union in court. The former Olympic figure skating champion was included on the EU’s sanctions list in June 2022, along with Peskov’s children, Elizaveta and Nikolai.

Moscow Times writes that, at that time, Brussels specified that the sanctions, which include a travel ban to the European Union and financial restrictions, were imposed “in connection with actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine”.

According to the information published on the EUR-Lex platform, Navka, born in the former Ukraine but a Russian citizen, is now trying to get the sanctions annulled through the Court of Justice of the European Union.

In the action filed, she maintains that the reasons for the restrictions were not properly presented, that there were errors of law and assessment of the facts, and that the EU has not demonstrated the existence of a sufficient link between her and the objectives of the sanctions.

At the same time, Navka is seeking compensation from the Council of the European Union for material damages, reputation damage, and other non-pecuniary damages, totaling over 2 million euros.

Another official EU database shows that Ekaterina Ignatova, the wife of Sergei Chemezov, the director of the Russian state corporation in the defense and technology industry, Rostec, is also trying to get the European sanctions lifted through the same legal procedure.
