A Tu-214PU aircraft, known as the “apocalypse plane”, which serves as a command post for Russia’s top officials, flew Monday morning from Vnukovo airport to Tehran. The flight was operated by a special detachment.
The aircraft is one of the safest that Russia has. According to The Moscow Times, it is equipped with closed strategic communication systems and software for coordinating governmental and military operations in crisis situations.
The airplane was designed to operate even in high-sea situations, ensuring the continuity of commands. An aircraft with similar purposes is also owned by the US leadership.
Russia and Iran have not revealed the objectives of the mission. Monday evening, just before the USA launched attacks on Iran, the plane was moved from Tehran to Beijing.
