On Monday, American officials spoke of significant progress in talks to halt Russia’s war against Ukraine and suggested that the Trump administration might be prepared to offer robust security guarantees for Ukraine, but that the offer “will not be available indefinitely”. The guarantees were described by the Trump administration as the “platinum package”.

The American assessment comes after two days of discussions in Berlin, between American, European, and Ukrainian officials. Donald Trump was represented in the discussions by his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The American president intends to discuss over the phone with American leaders on Monday, according to an American security official. Trump wants to discuss how the potential peace agreement is evolving. So far, Trump has spoken twice with Witkoff and Kushner on the phone, during the discussions held with Europeans.
